What’s It Like To Drive An American Muscle Car?
Oldsmobile Rocket 88
In 1949 Oldsmobile designed and created the Rocket 88, a car with a light body and a powerful engine, in response to the general demand at the time for faster cars. It was arguably the first American first muscle car and it created a need for speed that still exists today. Now, over 65 years later, the muscle car has become an icon of the American automotive industry and is just as popular as ever.
So, what exactly is a muscle car? Merriam-Webster’s definition of a muscle car is: “any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving.” Put simply, a muscle car must be fast, sharp, well-designed and well-constructed.
Two of the best examples of current American muscle cars are the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS and the 2015 Ford Mustang GT 5.0. The Ford Mustang, which is currently available for rent from First Class Rent a Car, was first released in 1964 and the high-performing 5.0L Mustang just came back in 2011 after a 16-year production hiatus! The Camaro, on the other hand, has been reengineered and redesigned for 2016, and was recently named the 2016 Motor Trend Car of the Year. The new 2016 Camaro SS will be arriving to join First Class Rent a Car’s fleet in January 2016!

These iconic cars are extremely fast and they continue to preserve a legacy that defines American motoring. But, don’t take our word for it…According to Car & Driver, “It’s easy to see why so many folks like the Mustang convertible, with its affable personality, all-American good looks, and strong performance.”
